Apostolos Samaras

Apostolos Samaras is a Military Veterinarian and Clinical Dietitian-Nutritionist, serving as a Captain in the Hellenic Army Medical Corps. He is a graduate of the Hellenic Military Academy of Combat Support Officers, the School of Veterinary Medicine of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics of Harokopio University of Athens, combining veterinary clinical practice with nutritional science and intervention. He currently serves as an Attending Officer at the Department of Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics of the 401 General Military Hospital of Athens, where he participates in the nutritional management of inpatients and outpatients, as well as in the Food Safety Team. In this context, he applies a structured and evidence-based approach to nutritional support, while also serving as the scientific supervisor for the clinical placement of undergraduate and postgraduate students from university departments of nutrition and dietetics. Throughout his military career, he has served in positions involving veterinary and public health duties, including primary veterinary support for military working dogs, food receiving inspections, inspections of military kitchens and cooperating food businesses, as well as staff duties in military formations across Greece. In 2020, he was seconded to the Ministry of Civil Protection as the head of a COVID-19 sampling team, with responsibility for team coordination and operational coverage of incoming and suspected cases at critical control and entry points of the country. At the same time, he is also active in the private sector as a clinical dietitian in healthcare settings, including Polygeia and Lifecheck. He speaks English.
