At The Nutrivets, we collaborate with veterinary practices and clinics, managing cases involving weight management, clinical patients, and hospitalized animals requiring structured and evidence-based nutritional support. Our intervention may involve standard clinical nutrition or advanced artificial feeding protocols, including oral nutritional support (ONS), enteral nutrition (EN), and parenteral nutrition (PN), always in close collaboration with the attending veterinary team. 1) Case Referral The clinic provides the patient’s medical history, suspected or confirmed diagnosis, treatment goals, current medication, available diagnostic results, and existing dietary regimen. Our aim is the immediate development of a personalized nutrition plan aligned with a unified management strategy. 2) Triage & Goal Setting The required level of nutritional support is defined (clinical nutrition/weight management or advanced ONS/EN/PN in cases of malnutrition or hospitalization). Clear, measurable targets are established, including energy and protein requirements, as well as macro- and micronutrient adjustments. 3) Clinical & Nutritional Assessment The current diet is thoroughly evaluated, and nutritional status is assessed (BCS/MCS) based on established international guidelines. 4) Nutrition Plan Design (ONS / EN / PN) Per os feeding (oral): Portion sizes, food textures, diet transitions, and treat management. Enteral nutrition (EN): Formula selection, administration rate, coverage targets, tolerance monitoring, and control checkpoints. Parenteral nutrition (PN): Monitoring, adjustments, weaning protocols, or combined feeding with EN. All invasive procedures (feeding tubes, catheter placement, PN administration) are performed exclusively by the attending veterinary clinic. 5) Nutrition Report A detailed written report is provided, including precise quantities, implementation guidelines, checkpoints, and key considerations—ensuring clear and evidence-based guidance for the pet owner. 6) Co-Management & Follow-Up Patient response is continuously monitored, and adjustments are made based on clinical condition, intake, tolerance, gastrointestinal signs, body weight, BCS/MCS, and laboratory findings. Why refer or co-manage a case with us? Referral or co-management is ideal in cases requiring specialized clinical nutrition, obesity management with fat loss while preserving lean body mass, anorexia, malnutrition, hospitalization requiring structured EN/PN protocols and monitoring, or whenever a standardized, structured intervention with high owner compliance is needed. Benefits for the Clinic • Enhancement of clinical services through an evidence-based nutritional approach • Time optimization and reduced workload for the veterinary team • Support in complex and hospitalized cases with structured EN/PN protocols and clear implementation plans • Improved client experience through written guidance and structured follow-up • All nutritional strategies are aligned with established international guidelines
